Prototyping Games with ChatGPT and Codex

Explaining an idea and running a project are different steps

Use conversation to define the rule and first-build boundaries. Codex CLI can inspect and edit local files and run commands. Introduce the existing engine project, then complete one gameplay loop instead of requesting an entire game at once.

Build a single-shot puzzle prototype

Example brief: In this 2D project, let the player choose a direction and launch one ball. Offer retry when it leaves the screen and show the result once when it reaches the target. Use the current engine and assets. Explain relevant files and a plan, then changes and checks.

Inspect collisions and input separately. Bricks Breaker images illustrate a game; they do not show this exercise being applied to its source code.

How to check the result

  • Can one tap create multiple balls or result events?
  • Does retry remove old balls, counters and listeners?
  • Have edge collisions and different screen ratios been tried?

Identify checks that could not run

Without access to the engine or device tools, do not report the result as tested. Inspect the diff, open the project in its engine and try input on a phone. Establish a consistent loop before evaluating visual polish.

Frequently asked questions

Does Codex publish a game to a store in one command?

It can assist with the project, but builds, device checks, signing and store preparation need verification. Producing code is not release approval.
