Decide the character’s role before drawing
Will the character run, solve puzzles or guide the player? That choice affects the camera, animation and controls. If artwork already exists, check that it remains readable at small sizes and supports the movements the game needs.
List the movements you actually need
Begin with idle, movement, success and mistake reactions. Adding costumes or another character can involve animation and testing as well as artwork. The AntSort images shown here are original character assets from our own development project.

Make the deliverables explicit
Separate source artwork, animation lists, the playable build and agreed levels in the proposal. Establish who approves the character and which visuals or voices can be used. Then review a short playable level to see how those choices work together.
