Earning Money from Mobile Game Ads: Models and Measurement
Evaluate mobile game ad revenue through active users, impressions, eCPM and retention, with a clearly labeled example.

Installs alone do not produce ad revenue
A download does not itself create an ad impression. A player needs to return, the ad needs to load at an appropriate moment and an impression must actually occur. Track daily active users, sessions and delivered impressions together.
A starting estimate is impressions divided by 1,000, multiplied by eCPM. This models estimated ad revenue, not profit after acquisition, hosting, development and other operating costs.
Ad formats affect the experience differently
Banners consume screen space, interstitials interrupt with a full-screen placement, and rewarded ads offer an explicit choice in exchange for an in-game benefit. The appropriate format depends on the game’s pacing.
Start with a natural break. Let gameplay continue if an ad fails to load. Deliver a reward when the earning event is confirmed, once for that ad session, rather than treating closure alone as proof that a reward was earned.
A hypothetical daily calculation
Assume 1,000 daily active players, two delivered impressions per player per day and an illustrative USD 5 eCPM. The estimated daily ad revenue is 2,000 / 1,000 × 5 = USD 10. These inputs are neither market averages nor SourSpark revenue figures.
If fewer players return, impression volume changes. Raising frequency may increase immediate delivery while reducing later engagement. Compare similar player groups instead of judging the decision on a single day.
Measure revenue alongside the experience
Track requests, loads, impressions, completion and reward delivery separately. Segment country, platform and format before extrapolating. Use test ads during development instead of interacting with production ads.
Explain which placements a Remove Ads purchase disables. Optional rewarded ads may need their own description. Keep the promise on the purchase screen consistent with what the game actually does.
Frequently asked questions
How much do 10,000 installs earn?
Installs alone are insufficient. You need active usage, delivered impressions, audience geography and measured eCPM.
Is ad revenue the same as profit?
No. Operating and acquisition costs must be evaluated separately from estimated ad revenue.
